Obituary for Martha Meek
“Easy”, as she was affectionately called by her immediate family when very young, passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by her family.  She was 82.

She was born November 26th, 1935, at Weeksbury, Floyd County, KY., daughter of James Floyd Adams and Rosa Belle (Isaac) Adams. Double promoted in grade school, her family moved to the “Coal Valley” area, Gallia County, Ohio, in 1949. The eldest of 5 siblings, she graduated High School in 1953 from Vinton High School, Vinton, Ohio.

She attended Rio Grande College, Rio Grande, Ohio, on a scholarship and in 1955 she received her provisional (at age 19) teaching certificate and began teaching elementary school at Centerville School (Thurman, Ohio). While teaching, she finished her degree and earned her BS in Elementary Education.

During her High School years, she met the love of her life and later married William J. Meek Sr. on April 23rd, 1955. From this union, they bore 5 adoring sons: William J. Meek, Jr, (Diane) of Bidwell, Ohio; Jonathan, of Battle Lake, MN; Benjamin, (Deb) of Eskridge, KS; Jeffrey, (Sherry) of Eugene, OR.; and Adam (Kattie) of Battle Lake, MN.  Martha’s true passions in life were God and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, her husband, children, grandchildren and her extended family.  Her other interests were her non-fictional writings and poems of faith.

She learned at an early age, the value of a vegetable garden, a milk cow and a “butcherin’ hog”, which she continued to practice those values up to the beginning of her illness.

Martha is survived by her husband of 62 years, her sons, daughters-in-law, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a brother, Dewey Adams, {Sandy} of Underwood, MN; a sister, Tilda Eloise Sakmar of rural Battle Lake; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 younger brothers and a grandson.   Special thanks to LB Homes Hospice for their kindness and guidance through a difficult time, and to all the friends, neighbors and family that supported the Meek family in act and deed.
