Obituary for Iona Johnson
Iona Lois (Ferber) Johnson was born on January 13, 1924 at the family farm in Girard Township, rural Henning, Minnesota. Her parents were the late Louis Christ and June Marie (Doolittle) Ferber. Iona graduated from the Henning High School with the class of 1942. She made her home in Minneapolis where she was employed in a bakery, ice cream factory and Thomas Women’s Apparel.Â
On October 8, 1950 Iona was united in marriage with Dean Warren Johnson at the United Methodist Church in Henning, Minnesota. Their marriage was blessed with 3 children. Iona and Dean lived in Minneapolis for a short time and then resided in Bloomington from 1953 to 1965.
They made their home in Houston, Texas from 1965-1968 and then Richfield, Minnesota from 1969-1981 and then retiring in Tuscon, Arizona from 1981-1985 and returned to Henning in 1986. Dean passed away on September 9, 1988.
Iona served with the United Methodist Women for 25 years and was a Eastern Star for over 50 years. She enjoyed baking, gardening and decorating.Â
On January 19, 2018 Iona passed away at Henning Health and Rehabilitation Center in Henning, Minnesota at 94 years of age. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Preceding Iona in death were her parents; husband, Dean; siblings Clarke Ferber and David Ferber.
Iona is survived by her daughter, Tawny (Jeffrey) Stromback of Eagan; 2 sons: Dean Johnson, Jr. of Eagan and Skyler Johnson of Duluth; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mariann Ferber of Safford, Arizona; many other relatives and a host of friends.
Pallbearers: Jeffrey Stromback, Jr, Neil Stromback, Thomas Stromback, Gunnar Johnson and David Johnson.Â
Laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
