Obituary for Delaine Meyer
Delaine Meyer, age 89, passed away into the arms of our Lord on January 18, 2018 at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota.

Delaine was born on November 13, 1928 to Henry and Edna (Gropper) Janke in Perham, Minnesota.  Delaine attended country school and Perham High School Graduating in 1946.  She was baptized and confirmed and married at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Corliss where she attended services and Bible Study her entire life.

Delaine married William Meyer on September 1, 1948.  They were blessed with a daughter, Rosemary.  Bill and Delaine built a successful dairy operation in Butler township, staying on the farm after semi-retirement.

To know Delaine was to know someone who had a PhD in home-making. She was a master of gardening, planting a huge garden every year, canning and freezing the fruits of her labor for home grown goodness which she often shared with friends and family.  She was a master baker, making homemade bread and goodies, once baking over 700 cookies for her grandson Todd’s wedding reception – only stopping when she ran out of freezer space. She was a master seamstress who could sew basic patches to wedding attire.  She also dabbled in knitting and crocheting making countless mittens that were bestowed on loved ones.

Delaine was a woman of strong faith.  As a life-long member of St. John’s Corliss she was active in Bible Study, taught Sunday School and was active in the Mary and Martha Society. She rarely missed an opportunity to volunteer to clean or serve at a funeral and was generous with her time and talents at the church.

Finally – Delaine was a loving wife and mother. She and Bill were married for over 69 years and worked together on the farm, in the garden, were avid Minnesota Twins fans and rarely seen apart when off the homestead.  Delaine was a doting mother and grandmother, who took great pride in Rosemary, Kimberly, Todd and Craig’s accomplishments.  In addition, she was a cheerleader for her extended family – taking time to make calls and check in to make sure they were doing well.

Perhaps her greatest delights came in 2015 with the birth of a great-grandson, Brandt, and just a month ago in December as an early Christmas present with the birth of a new great-granddaughter, Harper Laine, who was appropriately named after Delaine!

Delaine is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Edna Janke, brother Dale (Gayle) Janke; brother-in-law, Buster Meyer; sisters-in-law, Ardell and Adeline.

Delaine is survived by her loving husband Bill; daughter, Rosemary (Elman) Becker; Grandchildren: Kimberly (Dustin) Torgerson, Todd (Tracy) Becker and Craig Becker; great-grandchildren: Haley, Hannah, Brandt and Harper; sister-in-law, Karen Meyer; brothers-in-law: Jerome (DeLaine) Meyer and Edgar (Dorothy) Meyer; many other relatives and a host of friends.
